Chance was a calf that we brought in with a herd from Oklahoma during the drought in 2011. He was severly dehydrated in this picture four hours after he arrived at the ranch. By the evening, we had him in our living room in the air condition where we had nursed him back and he was able to stand. We put him back with his mom, Andra, but he was too weak to nurse. When we attempted to separate him to keep him as a bottle baby, Andra accidentally trampled him to death trying to protect him. He was the first we ever lost.
